Head of School Laura Lavine describes the Syracuse Hebrew Day School as a “gem of a school.” With more than forty years in education, she is delighted to be leading a school in which students meet the New York State Learning Standards and the demands of a robust curriculum of Hebrew and Jewish studies. The SHDS families are the most devoted she has had the pleasure of knowing, and the students are the most hard-working and most joyful.
Laura earned a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology, and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, both from Ithaca College. Her Certificate in Advanced Studies in Education Administration is from Syracuse University, and she completed the Superintendent Development Program at SUNY Oswego.
After serving as a speech-language pathologist, Laura became a Supervisor, Elementary Principal, Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent. She has taught preschool through graduate-level students, served on local, state and national boards and committees, and helped area school districts as an interim administrator. She also helps students by serving as an expert education witness for area attorneys.
Laura invites you to contact her to learn more about the Syracuse Hebrew Day School for your child and to schedule a visit. You’ll get a warm SHDS welcome that could change your child’s life for the better.
